Literature Text

Iron magic, rowan tree,

Marjoram and thyme:

Run the circle deosil

To the count of nine.

O you Faerie revellers,

Respect a dreamer’s right

To cross the circle fearlessly

And step into your sight.
To be spoken whilst running around a fairy ring clockwise nine times (and never a tenth time. Ooooh, you're tempting fate to do that.) Ideally, have some wild marjoram and thyme on you, to befuddle the faeries. And wear your cap backwards. And have a rowan branch and some iron on you (or give them to a friend who's not entering the circle, and they can use them as a lifeline to you if you get stuck.)

Repeat the rhyme until your run is complete. Gauge the mood. And then (if you feel bold enough) enter the elfdans.

Happy travels, dreamers.

interesting... what happens if you do it ten times?
